I'd say the Jesus and Mary Chain and the Pixies could be thrown in the the earlier alt mix as well. Definitely Automatic-era JAMC has a sound that fit in with the early 90's scene.

Haha... What a hipster way to feel. They had a handful of average songs with maybe 2 that hinted at what they could become. I feel like the only way you could say this is if you were just trying to be different.

Andrew Wood was a good singer, but the only studio album that they ever put out just showed the promise of the band and in general was just fairly average. To make any type of comparison between them and PJ is just trying to rock the boat.

Agree with Soldier. I'm really only familiar with early Pearl Jam (although I did see them on the Backspacer tour), and I'm not as well versed as Soldier with the band, but to say that there are only a few good songs on Ten is an unfair statement.

My two personal Pearl Jam albums are probably No Code and Binaural and these are mid-period.

The few good songs reference was directed to Mother Love Bone by Duga and not to Pearl Jam.

Love this album, but then again, I love all of pearl jams stuff

Have followed this band since 1991. Ten is still my favourite release by the band. Would like to see the band embrace this style one more time. Great review RMR.

No believe it or not I am a hard-core MLB fan.

Besides a comparison could be in order when one considers that PJ themselves cover MLB songs! (Hmm... Maybe PJ is not that bad after all... have to think about it awhile...)

They covered Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns... Arguably their only good song. If you want to rock the boat, you're going to have to explain why you find MLB to be better a little more clearly.

Again, they showed some potential. The above mentioned song is actually a damn good song, but the rest of their catalogue consists of half-realized alt rock songs with a ton of wannabe Jane's Addiction rip offs and songs that I can honestly only classify as hair metal.
