"The Fountain of Lamneth" is easily the most unique long-format song in Rush's catalog, and I rank it very highly as well. Compared to “2112” and “Hemispheres” (Rush’s other side long epics), "Lamneth" is a lot different. Those two share the same structure and are much more aggressive than “Lamneth,” which is much more lethargic and almost dreamy in nature. It sounds very Rush, but at the same time, it sounds like nothing else they created before or after. It is also much closer to the sound of the original 1st wave of progressive rock, which Rush was not officially a part of since they didn't arrive on the scene until 1974, and the 1st wave of progressive rock peaked in 1972- 1973. |

I personally always liked The Necromancer over The Fountain of Lamneth. The storyline that accompanies the song musically resonates for me much better than The Fountain of Lamneth. Don't get me wrong, The Fountain is an outstanding single. But I would rank it 2nd after The Necromancer for originality and experimentation.
