A fine review as always. I did listen to this album back in 2003 but i cant remember much about it now. I remember i didnt like it at the time and that "House of Jealous Lovers" just really irritated me and didnt agree with me at all. I cant say i have ever given it a second chance though.

I agreed with your review completely for my first several listens to the album. It gave me hope for the early-00s indie scene in NY/Brooklyn (which I pretty much can't stand but I wanted to like those bands - or at least understand why other people did). But something about Echoes stopped agreeing with me and I can't say I like it much at all anymore. I think I was only enthrallad by the Robert Smith-esque vocals.
