The Offspring - The Offspring (1989)

Cool review. Its sad how underrated this album is comparing to the other Offspring albums. This one is easily my favorite released by the band. I'm a pretty big fan of all the early stuff. By far this is the best. Most people dont even seem to know it exists, unfortunately.

Oh man, the memories...
When Smash came out and they hit it really big, me and my friends were all really excited for Offspring I remember. That album was great, but we also ended up going back through their earlier works and picking up Ignition and the one you've reviewed here, soon after. I think Ignition is still my favorite of theirs, but this might be second. It's really hard to say because Smash and Ixnay are amzing as well though. >< Very nice review on this too. I liked the song by song breakdown. I tried doing that in some of my reviews, but ended up going on and on about them, while yours is just short and too the point about each tune. Works really well I think. |
Wow, thanks for thepositive response! I kinda expected people to be more "meh" about it but it looks like I did pretty good!
Will work on more soon...the rest of the Offspring albums, first of all. |
Jennifer Lost the War is an absolutely brilliant, worth getting the album for that alone.

its good :]

I always preferred Ignition much more. Was a bit dissapointed by this debut after being introduced to the band first by Smash followed by Ignition and then the debut

I could easily have this little recive be nothing more than the title -- this is pure punk, at it's best. The Offspring are (or were) one of the best bands in the early 90's, because they combined the great punk sound with incredibly smart writing. This self-titled album that was released really proves it. If you liked The Offspring for some of their light pop-type hits (Pretty Fly For a White Guy; Get a Job; She's Got Issues) you probabaly won't enjoy this album. For true punk fans, it's highly recommended.

Smash...best road rage song around

Awesome review.
I first got into The Offspring with Ixnay and Americana. I still love Americana, but I've moved to their older albums. They're definitely better, in my opinion. New Offspring...just....I don't like it. By the way, hi. I used to come on this forum, but kinda forgot about it. I'll try and stick around this time!!! |
