Mmmhmm, good point. I read another review on this where they talk about the line: How Id push my fingers through your mouth To make those muscles move And make your voice so smooth and sweet And how its a metaphor for turning the pages of the book to hear Annes voice. Thats why I love this album so much, Ive never heard another album with lyrics so rich that I constantly hear new interpretations that are not only all wonderful, but all add something else. I could argue that this is the most lyrically well-written album of all-time (although Dylan fans would lynch me). And, excellent review, I really enjoy your song by song interpretation, especially that bit about carrot flower seeds being contraceptives, I never knew that. |
One of the most lyrically cryptic albums I've ever encountered. Solid review.

Very nice review. This album album was one of those albums that played a large role in shaping my taste in music. I was one of the albums that made me start listening to "indie" music.

That was a fantastic review. The album makes much more sense now, and it feels, now more than ever, like the concept album I'm sure it's meant to be. You will only "get the fuss" if you get to feel the album. It doesn't happen to everyone. It has to hit you, at some point in your life, for you to get it and love it to death. Otherwise it's just pretty cool, I guess.

It's a decent album, but it never struck me one way or the other. In that sense, it reminds me of Turn On The Bright Lights. It sounds decent enough while it's playing, but afterwards, I don't feel a particularly compelling urge to hear it again.

Took me a while to really appreciate it, but I get it, for people of the right age and background this is the perfect album.

By the way, this album has moved up to my favorite album of all time. After listening to it many, many times, no album connected with me on an emotional level like this one did. My favorite song on it is Two Headed Boy pt. 2, I think it's so, unbearably sad, and Mangum's voice sounds like he's trying to hold back tears. The lyrics are also very touching.

I did not know Magnum's brother committed suicide, that's awful. :( The last track is rapidly becoming my favorite as well.
As 'hipster' or whatever shit people call it, this is currently my favorite album. The whole album is really personal and resonant, and it really connects me to feelings about my deceased friend, so yeah. |

Two Headed Boy Pt. 2 is one of the best closers for any album I've heard. If I could cry, it would be to this song. |
You can't cry?
