Elefant - The Black Magic Show
Elefant - The Black Magic Show
1 Black Magic Show - 2:55 2 Sirens - 3:48 3 Lolita - 3:30 4 The Clown - 3:50 5 Uh Oh Hello - 3:15 6 Why - 3:52 7 Brasil - 2:57 8 My Apology - 3: 30 9 The Lunatic - 3:24 10 It's A Shame - 3:43 11 Don't Wait - 4:25 This is my first review , and everyone interprets things differently. If you've got comments or critisisms , feel free to share. Just don't complain because my thoughts are different than yours? Thanks . I first heard this band while playing FIFA 07, a game where "Uh Oh Hello" was included in the track list. I found that song kind of catchy , and looked on Wikipedia and read about the band for a while. This is their 2nd LP after 2003's Sunlight Makes Me Paranoid, and for a second album I found it a good listen. The title track, Black Magic Show has a good beat and can get stuck in your (or atleast my) head pretty easily. Sirens is a decent effort , along with My Apology and The Lunatic. Uh Oh Hello Is a bit of a standout on this album to me, with lead singer Diego Garcia asking " If you were my friend, do you think we could pretend, that everything's alright?" and then goes on I know you like it when we fight.. A few other "standouts" on this album include the sixth track , Why , which seems to be an emotional song about a man who's chosen drugs over the love of his life in the past. (Why.. must I always choose.. the high over me and you..?. This album, like most others, has it's ups and downs. But I have to think that the song on here that rises above the rest is the third offering, Lolita. Based loosely on a novel which shares it's title by Vladimir Nabokov, this is dark song about a man who gets aroused by young(or atleast, significantly younger) girls. .. When you wear those pretty dresses , I forget the girl in you.. Run away, run away.. I found myself days after hearing this album mumbling "Lola.. is on the floor..". All in all, an above average effort. Note: I don't particularly hear it, but i have heard about some people comparing this band's sound to that of The Killers. Just a note, if you like the Killers than you should give this album a try. 4/5 Thanks for reading my review! - Andrew. |

Great way to start off posting @ MB with Elefant as your subject for your first post, I like them too. The comparison to The Killers hadn't cross my mind. But Mod's guitar playing reminds me of Albert Hammond, Jr.'s playing most be a NYC thing - check out "Now That I Miss Her"
