As for a grunge revival? Just because it's 20 years after 1991 it doesn't mean that this has to happen. So far the only 'grunge revival' band i've come across is Violent Soho and they're nothing special. It's just media speculation.

that's exactly it though i obviously wasn't aware of Arm's coining of the term. it just got ridiculous for a bit around 92-93. $300 designer flannel shirts. really?
on one hand i totally agree that just because it's 20 years later doesn't mean that a revival has to happen. but at the same time pop music has proven stagnant and cyclical for a few decades now. the labels are running scared and haven't dared take a legitimate risk in the mainstream in pretty much ever, which has in turn lead to generations of young musicians who approach the medium for celebrated attention rather than artistic expression (the whole attitude that the audience is 'supposed' to be paying attention to the artist rather than the artist being there to entertain the crowd).
i really think the next decade will be interesting as more and more people come into themselves without really having to deal with mainstream mass media as their primary source for cultural identity and expression as they develop and mature into adulthood.
