Most awkward thing that happened to me recently involved money. I was about half an hour or forty five minutes away from home, and realized I didn't put my billfold in my purse...so I had no drivers license on me, and no debit card. I had a five in my pocket, but my gas tank was almost on empty, so $5 wasn't going to get me home - I had to scrounge through my car for change, and wound up getting $9 in gas (barely making it home) just so I could get my ID and head back into town.
Paying $9 with a five, a few quarters, a few dimes, and a bunch of nickels is incredibly humiliating. I hated the way the cashier lady was staring me down, but I really had no choice.
So - having to pay for something with a lot of change = awkward.
