The music itself is largely a joke though, and I'm saying this as someone who likes party music, is far from being a hermit and is definitely not an angsty teen. But many of the songs hair metal bands are most known for are ballads that are pretty far from being party music anyway. That fact of the matter is I personally enjoy hair metal for almost completely nostalgic reasons and I can totally understand why someone who didn't grow up in that era would just flat out think it sucks.
