I remember coming home from school every day after I'd just started high school and me and my pal would sit for hours listening to Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion and NOFX albums. And other bands of that ilk. Back when I was 12 or 13... that's what got me into music in a big way. Didn't have a computer or anything to download music, it was just trial and error with CDs from a local record shop. We knew we liked "punk" though.
I can't believe people are saying they got into music via Kayo Dot - I'd imagine you'd need to have more than a passing interest in music to know of that band. Were they really the FIRST band that clicked with some of you? Jeez. Reminds of Beck's interview with Thurston Moore where he (Beck, that is) mentioned the first record he'd ever bought was a Keiji Haino one.
