I think the reason "people somehow put alcohol in a special category" is because it's 1) widely used and 2) people see peers/co-workers drinking and still holding their lives together... where as a lot of drugs, that doesn't happen. Seems like a lot of people can keep their **** together and go have a few beers and not be addicted. Doesn't seem like as many drug users can do that.

Eh. I'm too sick right now to continue any kind of cogent debate (I'm home from work with pneumonia). The main point I'm trying to get at here though is that it's worth reading up on these kinds of things, and also considering the sources, before you make assumptions. A lot of the time you'll find that what's illegal and what isn't has much more to do with politics and economics than it has to with what's better or worse for you.
