Actually, Gaga's appeal is far more than just aesthetic. If you read the links I posted, you'll see that there's far more than just boldness and innovation in Gaga's imagery. She's extremely subversive in subtle and not so subtle ways and is doing a good job of eradicating and perverting the male gaze for her own subversive and confusing purposes. She wants the viewer to question her gender (or transgender; with Gaga, nothing is ever as it seems), and she's far more in control of her own image and how she uses it than all other women pop entertainers before her.
