The whole point of punk in the first place was its lack of exclusivity. Whether you were female, gay, geeky or lacking musical ability, you were welcome.

Ari Up of the Slits is a personal favourite. Kathleen Hanna of Bikini Kill/Le Tigre fame is also a legend.
