I used to do the same thing, haha. If you had the patience for that as a kid, you'd probably be good at using software to do it. Now a lot of it is done with tweening instead of true frame-by-frame so it's become far more streamlined nowadays. Anime Studio seems like a great place to start, there's a lot of things for beginners so it makes me wish it were my first animation program I've used.

Flash is also fairly easy to learn, but is harder to use overall.

Thanks! That 3 seconds took about 15 minutes, but that's not always average time.
