I never understood why people hated that album, I thought it was a pretty worthy follow up to
Smash, maybe all the haters just played Crazy Taxi too much.
Anyhow I have really been digging these two albums.
Collective Efforts -
Freezing World (2010)
Grabbed this on a whim and what a whim it turned out to be because this is one of my favorite hip hop albums of the year. It's incredibly laid back and mellow, but has some great flow to each song and some really uplifting lyrics with some great references to African American poetry of the early half of the 20th century. It also features a full backing band which only adds to the awesomeness, definitely an album to look into if you're after something new that has really gone under the radar for the year.
Panacea -
12 Step Program (2010)
My first experience with Panacea, but I'm pretty sure I've seen their name mentioned here or on some other forum for awhile. I'm even convinced that last.fm has recommended me them before, but I guess I never bothered to check them out. Better late than never in any case, like with Collective Efforts, this is a pretty laid back album with some great flow, as well as some great production and use of samples. Definitely going to go back and look at their discography and start cherry picking albums.
