I like Sing the Sorrow a lot too. Perhaps less now than then, but still. I don't recall whether I knew it was a Butch Vig production or not. But I do remember paying attention to his name in the 90s, he was one of 3 or 4 producers I paid attention to. For some reason the only one that comes to mind is L7's Bricks are Heavy, but it looks like he also did Nevermind, the 2 best Pumpkins albums, and my favorite Helmet. Go Butch! He's also done Garbage though which I don't care for...but that's the band's fault, not his.

Anyhow yeah, I think you're right that Dirty would be a good starting point for the SY noob. I should have picked it up that day.
