Rubber Soul did not just only pave the way, but it set some high standards, and it includes more songs that can be covered by bands anywhere without fail while most of the magic on Revolver is more studio based - In my opinion (although I also stand by Revolver as their best) it's a solid choice. It was possibly the first album to play classic after classic from start to finish (OK, you can skip "What Goes On"...but even that has a charm), and it had a great style with the rockers like "The Word," George's "Think For Yourself," and "Drive My Car" keeping the energy stay at a strong level of cool. The real start of serious stand-alone albums.
