Oh hey, I missed this post -- To answer your question / comment:

I can totally understand where your coming from as the album is really quite 'abstract' compared to much of his other music. It's got a lot of short, meandering tracks and not a whole lot of beats. I had problems getting into it myself for a while. I liked it immediately but after a few listens I just kind of never put it on again. But recently I've been listening to it a lot and so here's my response to you:

I began to think of it as more of a 70s Jazz fusion album - or maybe Krautrock even. I also only listen to the album straight through, never single songs. It made a lot more sense to me after that.

My favorite of the rare groove-based tracks is this:

But my favorite track is probably this:
Dance of the Pseudo Nymph
