It's a fairly even split, in my experience.

I know lots of women who are really interested in music, and it's not just "scenester" types either. In fact, one of my best friends (female) is a music major in her second year of college, and a self-professed audiophile with a wall full of vinyl and shockingly diverse music tastes. Likewise, I know plenty of men who could fit within that criteria as well.

Although, what the hell do I know. I'm female, and I suppose I'd qualify as a scenester type myself. :P
