Subs > Dubs by a significant amount.
Miyazaki films tend to have pretty good dubs and other anime like Cowboy Bebop and FLCL have very good english dubs. But other times english dubs can ruin really good anime. The American theatrical release of Akira is a pretty good example of great anime done a great disservice by poor english dubbing.
