I think what Urban said is entirely correct, because it is supposed to have it's roots (or some of them) in Hardcore Punk it's decidedly lightweight regarding it's directness and aggressiveness. Replacing harsh vocals and blast beats for intensity doesn't make it any more appealing and the appalling lack of bass means that very few bands appeal to me.
Many people seem to think that because it's popular then music fans of a certain age crap on it for the sake of it which is simply not true. I personally judge bands on their own merit regardless of the genre and the simple fact is, is that most Metalcore bands have lost what it is to be a metal band and the emphasis has shifted onto creating a certain sound and sacrificing individuality. The same happened with Thrash in the late 80's too.
