I hold the door open for either genre, give up my seat on the bus for those who need it more and have carried shopping home for an elderly neighbour a few times. As you say it's good manners. BTW if I don't get a thankyou for holding a door open etc I usually say 'Yeah your welcome' just loud enough for them to hear it. I abhor bad manners.
