Yes!!!! I'm going to get quite cocky, wmt, about my interpretations of songs matching what the writer intended.

Manipulation and lying as part of religions...the turning of people into fools...is something I've thought about frequently and seen quite a lot of. I was just discussing this topic a couple days ago with my dad. So, I wasn't sure if I was reading more into the song than is there, or not. I'm glad to see I was right.

I agree with you that a traditional popular-sounding song that damns religious manipulation and the willingness of people to believe on slight or nonexistent evidence, would be an interesting contrast.
