I can see I will have to look and listen through this thread all the way through, since I don't know a lot of the songs.

The one song I do know and love that happens to be funk/disco, is Lipps Inc's one hit wonder song, "Funkytown," from 1980. Ahh...brings back a nice feeling of childhood! The song is still doing pretty well, I'd say, because I heard it just yesterday on an Iowan radio station...and if they're still playing it in Iowa 30 years later, I'd say that means the song has lasting power.

It interests me how some songs do so well worldwide. Wikipedia says that "Funkytown reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and Dance charts in 1980, also reaching number 1 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Norway and The Netherlands," and was considered disco's last stand.

After hearing the song yesterday at work, I looked it up online, since I never knew anything about who sings it. I found out that "Funkytown" was written about Minneapolis! Minneapolis, with the Mall of America, doesn't seem very funky now, I must say. But, I still love the song...I could listen to it over and over! The drumbeat and the simple light feeling of the song, plus its bouncy happiness are what make me want to listen again and again...so far, only 5...no, 6...times today!
