i voted no.

not because Beethoven sucks, not in the least, but all i can honestly say i know about his music without doing a bit of research is the piece that was used in milk commercials when i was a kid (most likely ode to joy) and that one bit from one of his symphonies. hardly enough to merit much of anything from a personal perspective.

i always thought this is supposed to be the site's HoF. the bands WE actually like, not the ones we think we're supposed to like because of some outward perception on what is supposed to be good or acclaimed by default (elitist behavior not unlike the so-called sheep of the mainstream so many of the younger members seem intent on distancing themselves from...)

i've been here for 2 years now, i've got more fingers on one hand than times i've seen substantial discussions about classical music here. in fact the only one i remember was when some idiot noob claimed Classical music was a simple joke and that he could write a symphony within 2 months.

so why is Beethoven nominated again? who actually honestly listens to his symphonies? who can say anything about him aside from the anecdote about being deaf and being one of the big 3 composers? who are we trying to impress here? Yahoo Answers and Wikipedia? the upper crust of haute-culture?

i'd rather here the case as to why Miley Cyrus or Lady Gaga should or should not be in this site's HoF (if current popular topics of discussion are any indication).

hell, reading that intro bit about Beethoven it's basically laid out in a way that if you aren't planning to vote Yes you should abstain until you're ready to vote that way. in which case, what the hell is the point of even having a nomination process if it's 'supposed' to be unanimous? the idea that we wouldn't have modern music resting solely on the shoulders on a single individual from so long ago in history is both absurd and derogatory to human potential.
