After reading Hawking's original comments, the press have totally blown out of proportion what he was saying to make him look crazy. He was just discussing hypothetical possibilities about life other than on Earth, and proposing hypothetical situations of what might happen if they we did encounter aliens. Now everybody is panicking saying that Stephen Hawking told us aliens are going to come and take over the planet.
