I know exactly what you mean. There are quite a few artists where I have this problem. If you like Elliott Smith, you should check out Sparklehorse (if you haven't already). I just recently got into him with the album "It's a Wonderful Life". It isn't completely acoustic like a lot of Elliott's stuff, but they have a similar passion in the way they sing.

it's been one of those things i've been meaning to listen to but never really gotten around to! but i will now.
if you have any more recommendations it would be wonderful, because it is, like you say, the passion, intensity and honesty that attracted me to elliott smith so if you know more of that, it would be great
