Mystic River was a good read, a well-written,
very descriptive, as well as deep with dialouge, and an overall rewarding experience for this crime drama/mystery novel. Lehane focused a lot on characters mannerisms and their facial expressions, as well as the way they operated and what made their clocks tick so that by the end of the book, you felt like you actually knew the characters and the way they behaved in certain situations.
Lehane seems long winded in this book, as the book seemed it could have been about 100 pages shorter and achieved the same amount of climatic presence. Coming in at about 450 pages, Mystic River was no afternoon sit down. But overall I think Lehane's descriptive ability, as well as his ability to make his characters come alive makes him a writer I would probably read more of in the near future.
