The bad rap stems from the ostensible fact that the majority of regular opiate users wind up addicted and a slave to the drug of their choice. Even if you manage to kick the habit, the index of relapse is so high that rehab clinics may see the same patient three, four times. Not to mention the glaring health consequences that exist just from regular use, I don't need to expound upon those, do I?

I have no problem with people using whatever drugs they choose. I do have a problem with people trying to justify those piss-poor decisions with corrupt logic. If getting high is really worth the risks you acknowledge exist, by all means, shoot up. Just don't expect any pity when the hammer falls.

A few of the drugs I consider "not worth it":
Crack cocaine
Amphetamines (meth & MDMA)
Opiates
Nicotine

I'm not suggesting that anything that poses health risks is stupid. But at some point you really need to consider whether the risks are worth the benefits of the drug.
There's stupid PEOPLE vs stupid things, though. You're talking about folks you'd find at 03:00, laying in their bed by themselves with a wrap on their arm attempting to chase that first high they got ages ago... there's a difference between that and recreational use. Not everyone gets wrapped up in that. It's a risk, I suppose, that you will, but everything is a risk. Pulling your car out of the car park every day is a risk you'll get into an accident. And there's the arsehole who drives top speed and crashed into a brick wall, while there's the others who keep it low, and don't do barmy things. It's the way everything is in life, and I believe I CAN justify it, cos I am not the drug, and it ain't bigger than me.

Alright, to each his own-- but in respects to nicotine, that doesn't even get to ya till you're of a fine age... and we're all ganna die anyways. I know that aint a good reason to smoke, but if I die at 70 VS 85... Don't think I'd be missing too much.
