Not for me. I got "the giggles" when I first started smoking. But I never had anxious, paranoid feelings until after many years of experience with marijuana. It's a big reason why I quit smoking all the time, and I rarely smoke these days. It actually started having the adverse effect on me that it used to. Whereas when I was 13-18, pot would be the perfect thing to make me zone out, not think about anything and be lazy. These days, it either makes me think too much, which can make me paranoid, or just makes me want to
do something (which is what I use it for these days). I'll smoke and then get to work on something, usually writing music. The only problem is, if I don't write down or record what I come up with, I'll forget it immediately.
