I just think that if someone is going to be having a relatively easy life writing music (not saying writing music is easy btw) then they should be prepared to sacrifice a stupidly high-earning income for a more modest one.

the biggest problem with this logic is the idea that an individual's challenges are predetermined by the career path they want to follow.
would you call leaving your wife and 2 infant children home alone while you head off for 3 week stretches every month a relatively easier life than working 9-5?
or should we incorporate an age limit on musicians? NO ROCKERS OVER 30!
