Anticipation sent me Following the Holy Moon Goddess by The Summer We Went West, who disbanded in 2007 after releasing this.

Basically this album at its core is indie, with what I'd describe as emo vocals (sort of similar to American Football). However, this album really cannot be pigeonholed into a specific genre. One moment you'll be listening to swirling guitars and loud, obnoxious vocals, then the band will slow it down and take it easy with some minimalist, chilled out instrumental sections. Tracks 6-8 take a completely different direction, as they're basically spoken word poetry over some drums and electronic beats.

From glancing at other reviews the stand-out track for most people is apparently Jackson Hole, Wy. I think I preferred Gin, the track directly after, and Aussie Shampoo Massacre was also solid. I also really enjoyed the above-mentioned tracks 6-8, it was almost like listening to a completely different album but somehow it worked. Overall though I couldn't really get into it, I think mainly due to the vocals, which were kind of whiny and a little too-all-over-the-place for me. The one real positive I liked was that it definitely never got monotonous, the band was definitely unafraid to mix it up from track to track. Dunno if I'd listen to it again as it's not really my cup of tea, but it was an interesting 40 minutes for sure.
