I don't know how it is or was in the UK, but I know that about ten years ago, I was in a band. We played at the Amherst Skillet on thursday nights, and the Ace of Aces on Saturday nights. We had a gig every week on the week. We were expected and demanded to be there. We were fairly decent, and people always gave us a standing ovation. It didn't matter what was going on, we showed up. Often times enough, one or two or more of us would sick as a dog. Unless we were dying, we were there. It does seem like bands are less committed today. But then again, I never really book bands. I just attend.
