You're not going to be utilizing the speed and efficiency of dual channel RAM if you mix those specific different sized sticks. For example, if you have 4 RAM slots in your computer, a 512 stick in one slot, a 512 stick in another slot, then you could add a 1GB stick in each of the remaining two slots for optimal performance.
Dual channel RAM matchups need to be symmetrical.
Make each two RAM channels physically match with each other. Otherwise, only the 512 sticks will be operating at dual channel mode.
