I agree with the above, The Clash wrote much more artistically sophisticated songs, incorporating reggae, dub, jazz and other genres into thier songwriting. The Ramones are great to, but their sound never really evolved, just simple 8th note pop rythems.
That being said as someone who grew up skateboarding to Hardcore I wouldn't even consider The Clash punk by today's standards. There more like an alternative rock band, while the Ramones with songs like "were a happy family" still sound punk.
