I first listened to some stuff by Pain of Salvation about a year ago and went into them thinking they were going to be death metal sounding (well they are Swedish!) and all wrapped up in concept albums. I listened to the first three albums and wasn`t impressed to say the least. They weren`t really metal and sounded very bitty, I just couldn`t get into them.

About a month a go, a voice in my head said go back and listen to them, I`m glad I did as I`m finding a progressive group with a wealth of influences that produce some damn good music and are another great group to come out of Sweden.

Their music could be described as metal but in a very mellow way, as their influences are in part definately metal based, but of course they bring in a lot of non metal based influences as well, which makes them so interesting.

As for the Albums, well "Entropia" is a very good debut with some great guitaring and other musical sounds with a lot of very good material which at times has a groovy feel. "One Hour by Concrete Lake" I didn`t really like that much, maybe the concept was all quiet dodgy in the first place. "The Perfect Element" I think this is a great album and combines all the positive aspects of the first two albums and is very focused, I`m actually listening to this album at the moment and will probably give it a couple more listens as its so good.
