the Horrors 'Primary Colours' (2009)
It's a blurry out-of-focus album cover which belies the My Bloody Valentine/Jesus&Mary Chain-hijacking post-punk contained within. Fair enough, they wear it on their sleeves and it turned out great. The Horrors here are unrecognizable as that 'novelty' garage group you vaguely remember from a few years ago, it's a total U-turn, and lead-off single 'Sea Within A Sea' is the unexpected
motorik detour and my favourite track. Stupidly postmodern and like everything I suppose, but good fun nonetheless. Although.. I've had this album for most of the year now and there's an inescapable feeling of having opened a Kinder egg to find they left the toy out. German bastards
