Screw the cynics who wouldn't know good pop music if it c
ock-slapped them in the face, the first two Vines albums were a great confluence of 60s and 90s pop/rock (to those that cite the big, overplayed hits like 'Ride' I would argue that 'You Really Got Me' is no less annoying)...
The comeback, 'Vision Valley', is pretty much more of the same, with flourishes of baroque and all the harmony vocal overdubs that I am a sucker for. Nicholls (lead singer/guitarist/songwriter) has been accused of ripping off Kurt Cobain's act, and his influence is definitely strong, with the same grunge-era guitar sound, but I think the pop sensibilities over-ride all of that and it owes much more to 90's Britpop than anything else I think.
Their last album was weak however, and I'd like Nicholls to develop his more ambitious, psychedelic style of songwriting that we are only given glimpses of across the first 3 records... Because let's face it another radio-friendly song from these guys with an annoying chorus is not really called for
