Maybe, but probably not. I wouldn't say I was scared by it, so much as creeped out. Most of the time when I see mainstream horror flicks these days I sit there laughing- it's pretty rare that a horror film scares me, outside of the cheap "jump out of your seat" moments where something flashes at the camera real quick with a sudden scream (for example). But, like I said, I think that's pretty cheap, because it's proven and beat to death- it's like any "hit in the nuts" thing in a comedy to me. The fact that Paranormal Activity creeped me out made it memorable- if it hadn't succeeded there I would probably have lumped it with other laugh out loud horror movies; isn't the goal of a horror mostly to scare? In that regard, great successs
