Dark cabaret is a music genre that blends the aesthetics of the decadent, risqué German Weimar-era cabarets and 1920s burlesque and vaudeville shows with the morbid, gloomy stylings of post-1970s-goth culture, gothic rock, punk, deathrock, and darkwave music. Dark cabaret music usually features passionate, deep female or male vocals, in a style influenced by Marlene Dietrich’s singing or the singing in a Kurt Weill operetta. The vocals are usually accompanied by a sparse piano accompaniment, along with strings (cello or violin) and other instruments such as the accordion or trumpet. Influential Dark Cabaret artists include Klaus Nomi, Rozz Williams, The Dresden Dolls, and Voltaire.

That is pretty much the best way to describe this style of music. It is set up a lot like a show you'd expect to see live in some theater. There's often a lot of dark humor in the songs, which just add to the live element. While there's often a lot of studio musician work for each song, for a style like this it really works well. If you can get past the odd demeanor and some of the stereotypical voices, there's quite a lot to this almost unheard of genre. Hopefully with this mix it will attract the attention of some people and create new fans.
