Personally I'm not here to debate music I've already formed a personal opinion of.
I read recommendations and explore them, and I make some of my own when I come across a thread asking for material that I can contribute to productively... meaning, I'm not going sit there and reiterate an established perspective.
I understand the point behind identifying who shares the same taste, as it can lead to mutual discovery of new music, but I've been around here long enough to know who I can talk to for productive discussion, and if I feel the need to fish for ideas, I'll do so.
I can probably improve the rate at which I spread my own perspectives of music, but again, if I think it's just going to be another identical fish in an already overpopulated pond, then I'm not going to waste unnecessary time and energy.
In that context, not having a lot to contribute says less about the individual and more about the vast diversity and quality of contributions of the community at large. I think we just need to re-evaluate the goals of this site and ask ourselves whether or not we're meeting them.
I think we are. And yes, there are imperfections, but I don't think the goal was ever perfection, nor could we ever reach it. The bad comes with the good, but from what I see, the good far outweighs anything else. I think if we keep sight of that and maintain an equilibrium that allows for growth, then we'll be alright.
