Oh, it's not about importance .. just preference! I was just stating a rather useless opinion. The end of the 60s and early 70s are anyway very exciting!

Nice list! My personal favourites from your mentions is probably Pink Floyd's Animals, The Clash's London Calling .. And Kate Bush's The Kick Inside. Thanks for including that one

Since my last period was 1969 to 1973, I'll continue and do 1974 to 1978! So here are the "importantest" events I can think of in that timeline :

1974

Hatfield and the north release their self-titled debut.
Frank Zappa releases Apostrophe(')
Tom Waits releases Heart of Saturday Night
Electric Light Orchestra release Eldorado
The Residents debut with Meet the Residents
King Crimson release Red

ABBA win the 19th Eurovision .. My mother loved ABBA, so that's an event of minor importance.

1975

Hawkwind release Warrior on the Edge of Time
Camel release their Music Inspired by the Snow Goose
Earl Scruggs Revue release Anniversary Special, vol 1
Rainbow debuts with Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow
Pink Floyd release Wish You Were Here
Hatfield and the North release Rotters' Club
Harmonium release their Si on avait besoin d'une cinquième saison

Iron Maiden forms and Peter Gabriel leaves Genesis!

1976

Boston release their self-titled debut!
Alan Parsons Project release their Tales of Mystery and Imagination
Weather Report release Black Market
Thin Lizzy release Jail Break
Rainbow release Rising
Heart debuts with Dreamboat Annie
Blue Öyster Cult release Agents of Fortune
Return to Forever release Romantic Warrior

The Clash, The Cure and U2 get together, but Soft Machine and Deep Purple break up .. although the latter will reunite!

1977

Heart release Little Queen
Weather Report release Heavy Weather
David Bowie releases Low and Heroes
Eric Clapton releases Slow Hand
National Health release their self-titled debut

After Saturday Night Fever, Disco enters the mainstream and Bee Gees is the hottest thing since Beatles. Elvis Presley dies. The B-52s and Dire Straits get together! Return to Forever disbands.

1978

Heart release Dog & Butterfly
Frank Zappa release Zappa in New York
Dire Straits release their self-titled debut
Kate Bush releases her debut The Kick Inside

The Grease movie is released and Franki Valli's theme becomes a hit. My younger brother liked Grease and so on a trip to London with my parents, his suggestion to see it was favoured to my idea of watching the phantom Sex Pistols play their final show.

I'd include more about punk, but most of the punk I like is actually from 79 and up a few years.
