nice idea, i'm not sure if it will work but why not give it a try.
also what about instead of only sending the file to one person and following a sort of line, what about just leaving it up so that anyone can potentially add their bit, this way you will end up with more than one track from the original beat/sample/whatever. just a suggestion. :-)
