Yes, you will still need the amp. Electronic kits, in most if not all cases (none that I've seen) do not have speaker outs. You need something to power the speakers, and you will also need a way to get the sound from the kit to the speakers. You could potentially use a stereo receiver if your kit has RCA outs, or you could buy a cable that goes from 1/4in or 1/8in (the two most likely output sizes on your kit) to RCA L/R
