I've heard a bit from bands like Screaming Trees and Mudhoney, but in my opinion, there was a reason that bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden , Alice in Chains, Temple of the Dog, and Stone Temple Pilots made a bigger impact. Call it catering if you like. I just think it was because they were better. Because it was a rare time when the kids were actually getting into music that had fire and reason and purpose.
And I only threw in STP because they started out their career by tagging on to the grunge sound.
Core and
Purple were excellent albums. After that, though.... the post-grunge Apocalypse befell the American consciousness and took Stone Temple Pilots with them. Or STP went along willingly because they still wanted to sell albums. Who knows?
