In my opinion, the songs that are chart toppers should be the band alone with as little interference from recording dubs as possible. I completely understand using beat machines or psychedelic over-dubs in recording songs that will not be used in concert for artistic expression and exploration but keep the extra add-ons away from major songs. People want to see a band play live, they do not want to hear the album while the band holds instruments.
