After looking through this thread again I have to kick myself for not mentioning Untitled off Turn On the Bright Lights by post punk darlings Interpol. What has become my favorite track from their entire discography is a classic minimalist track yet it creates an enormous sounds cape that echoes throughout the entire album. "Surprise sometimes will come around", sings Paul Banks at about a minute into the song and that’s what the album was in 2002 a breath of fresh air from an old genre. A guitar enriched with mountains of delay starts off then soon accompanied by heavy drums with low bass notes and Paul's detached singing stumbles in. I always picture the dark empty streets of New York City wet with evening rain whenever I hear this song. It always paints a beautiful picture in my head.
