Thrice you ever read a book called "Out of It: A Cultural History of Intoxication" by Stuart Walton? If not I highly recommend it, it explains the how mankind has been using whatever available to become intoxicated, but not just how it's exclusive to humans, but other animals as well. Very insightful and well written.
