Songs I LOVE by bands I LIKE (but dont love)
pt. #1
I'm sure everyone has had this experience you hear a song by a group and you think 'my god that's amazing, I must hear more from this band!' But sadly nothing else they have done really impresses you as much as that one song. So youre left hungry for more, though getting scarps of good stuff its like a burger patties compared to a full steak.
Muse- New Born
One of these songs for me is New Born by Muse. It's pretty much their equivalent of Radiohead's Paranoid Android. Matt Belamy sings about humanity's growing dependence on technology and how humanity itself is well losing its humanity and growing more like cold machines. But Ive never cared about Muse's lyrics that much but these however I find interesting. Musically the song is fu
cking great. After the dreamy robotic piano you hear Matt play this amazing guitar riff, and then you know s
hits going down. Most of the time I'm annoyed by Matt's voice, we know you can hit the high notes Matt but you dont need to prove it in every single line you sing, though here it actually fits rather well. Also great solo (Matt is actually a very good guitarist) though in the video below the solo features more guitar sweeps, but it makes it sound even better.

Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect- The Decemberists
This is one of my all time favorite songs, so of course Ive tried desperately to get into other stuff by the Decemberists but end up with nothing more than disappointment. Colin Meloy's lyrics on here are pretty much what makes me love this songs so much. Reminiscent of something Bob Dylan would write they are almost surreal in their story telling of dreams and past lives. The band's overall sound matches Colin's words with their soft dream like sound. Again reminiscent of Dylan with light drums, organ, and light playful electric guitar all that’s missing is a harmonica. The lyrics are something of a story telling as Colin as the narrator revisiting his dreams (or past lives) with opening lines narrating “And here I dreamt I was a soldier and I marched the streets of Birkenau and I recall in spring the perfume that the air would bring to the indolent town” or “And here in Spain I am a Spaniard I will be buried with my marionettes, countess and courtesan have fallen beneath my tender hand when their husbands were not around”.
Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect
Full Lyrics:
And here I dreamt I was a
soldier
And I marched the streets of Birkenau
And I recall in spring
The perfume that the air would bring
To the indolent town
Where the barkers call the moon down
The carnival was ringing loudly now
And just to lay with you
There's nothing that I wouldn't do
Save lay my rifle down
And try one, and try two
Guess it always comes down to
All right, it's okay, guess it's better to turn this way
And I am nothing of a builder
But here I dreamt I was an
architect
And I built this balustrade
To keep you home, to keep you safe
From the outside world
But the angles and the corners
Even though my work is unparalleled
They never seemed to meet
This structure fell about our feet
And we were free to go
And try one, and try two
Guess it always comes down to
All right, okay, guess it's better to turn this way
And here in Spain I am a
Spaniard
I will be buried with my marionettes
Countess and courtesan
Have fallen beneath my tender hand
When their husbands were not around
But you, my soiled teenage girlfriend
Or are you furrowed like a lioness
And we are vagabonds
We travel without seatbelts on
We live this close to death
And try one, and try two
Guess it always comes down to
All right, it's okay, guess it's better to turn this
But I won, so you lose
Guess it always comes down to
All right, it's okay, guess it's better to turn this way
