I think classics are overrated and don't deserve as much credit as they get. Just look at the 100 greatest songs of all time lists. All of them are full of songs from the 60's-80's. Why can't just 1 modern metal song be on that list? There are tons of good metal songs that mean alot more.
Maybe more to you, but to most, that's probably not the case. "Classic music" is held in high regard by a lot of people because a lot of people connect with it, and are touched by it in some fashion. That goes for any piece of music, and it shouldn't change because they are older songs.

You also have to realize that "metalcore" doesn't exactly have as big of a following as other forms of music.
